We determined that as we listened to Blu-ray movies, but unfortunately, the BDV-EW doesn't offer an easy way to make level adjustments "on-the-fly. With a lot of Blu-rays, you then have to restart the disc and make your way Sony BDV-E500W Home Theatre System through the FBI warning and movie trailers to get back to the movie.

That's why we think Sony needs to design all of its future Blu-ray HTIBs with channel volume-level adjustments, or at least subwoofer volume, via the remote. True, the tone controls are buried in the setup menus, but at least they're there.

The "Night" mode, also easily accessible via the remote compresses soft-to-loud dynamic range for late night movie sessions. It worked reasonably well.

That means if you're connecting a game console or a cable box, you're gonna need to make a separate connection to your TV and the system, and you'll have to fumble with remotes every time you switch inputs. Now even with these shortcomings we could have looked past them if the Sony Sony BDV-E500W Home Theatre System us away with the sound quality, but in fact we've found that the sound quality was just about average.

So all together Sony BDV-E500W Home Theatre System we really like the Sony's style, and it does offer a great Blu-ray experience, out of the box we didn't feel that the sound quality or the features that it had really justified the high price tag. Now another reason the system is so expensive is that it's one of the few home theater in a box units we've seen with wireless rear speakers out of the box.

There's a wireless receiver that you place in the back of your living room, and then you run a couple of wires to the surround speakers. So it's not truly wireless, but at least you don't have to run wires from the from your home theater all the way to the back.

I'd rate music sound as 'good' as opposed to 'excellent' Wires: Speaker wires are pretty flimsy and too short. This wouldn't be a huge problem if it weren't for Sony's proprietary speaker 'plug' that connects the speaker wire to the main unit.

Don't be fooled into thinking you can just swap out some longer speaker wires and be done with it. And it has a little bit more of a stylish appearance than some of the other systems we have. They have a glossy black finish, which is also shared by the much smaller surround speakers, center channel, and sub-woofer.
